The presence of the Lay Carmelites has been in Kenya for the last 40 years. The movement started in a place called Nkubu, Meru on 30th May, 1964. By 2006, the members who joined the movement were 2413. It was flourishing under the leadership of Fr. Joseph Demarie, a Consolata priest since the beginning until 2001. When the Carmelites came over to Kenya, they took over the care. The movement spread allover Kenya in various groups such as Nairobi, Muthambi, Kakamega, Nyeri, Machakos etc. under a centralized national council.

They are scattered all over the country and live their life according to the Constitution of the movement at home as well as in their place of work. The members come together for various prayer meetings and other functions. Once in a year all the members gather together in one place for an annual retreat and again they meet annually to celebrate their family day. The movement is spreading through various secondary schools as it is heading to a bright future in Kenya. After Fr. Joseph Demarie, Fr. Felix Pallipatt took over as the new director until 2006 when he went back to India for new ministry. Newly ordained Fr. Onesmus Muthoka took over and since then, the number of is still growing as he keeps founding new members from different places.
